Tommy Leggett’s York River oysters are always on our menu. We also feature James River oysters and Gulf oysters.
Since 1983, Berret’s Seafood Restaurant and Taphouse Grill has offered two dining choices in one convenient location. We are located in Merchants Square, one block from the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg and across from the College of William and Mary.
The Seafood Restaurant has been voted by locals as “Best in Williamsburg” and “Best Crabcake”, year after year. We actively seek out the freshest in regional seafoods and produce. Our proximity to the York and James Rivers, Chesapeake Bay, and offshore Atlantic waters provide a variety of fresh seasonal catches: shad roe, softshell crabs and sea trout in the spring; flounder cobia, tuna, wahoo and bluefish in the summer; and rockfish, red fish and sea bass each fall. With the availability of local natural oysters and clams and the advent of aquaculture, we offer shellfish year-round. On our menu we feature Tommy Leggett’s Chessie Seafood York River oysters, along with “Happy Oyster Hours” from 11:30 pm to 7:00 pm every day, $1.00 oysters on the half shell or roasted. For the unfortunates who wish not to eat seafood, equal care is taken with our steaks, chops and poultry entrees. Children are welcome with special menus and in spirit as well. Our full beverage service includes a newly expanded 80-bottle wine list with 20 wines by the glass, local micro-brews and full bar service. The interior of the Seafood Restaurant reflects 30 years of collecting art, mainly local, in all forms from oils, watercolors, ceramic, natural and carved wood pieces and etched glass, with new art added regularly.
The Taphouse Grill is our casual outdoor bar and grill that celebrates a more contemporary Virginia than our historic neighbors across Duke of Gloucester Street. The menu features seafood, chicken and beef, highlighting Virginia specialties such as oysters, crab, and fresh produce. $1.00 oysters are featured from opening until 7:00 pm every day, on the half shell or roasted. The Taphouse has a full bar that includes a wine menu featuring unique selections that highlight award winning wines from across the state, and a beer menu with more local microbrews on tap than any other outdoor restaurant in the area. Live music is featured on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting). Every Thursday during the summer is Steal the Pint Night. A different brewery is featured each night with 4 unique draft beers. Keep the glass, enjoy a great meal and listen to some good local music.
The Taphouse Grill is open each April through November.
