Alex Lambert, co-owner of Lambert Shellfish, is a first-generation oyster farmer based out of Hungars Creek in Machipongo, Virginia – located on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Eastern Shore.
In 2019, Alex left the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers to pursue his dream of starting his own commercial oyster farm. Alex uses adjustable longlines, a relatively new method in the Chesapeake Bay region, which produces a consistently attractive and strong-shelled oyster that is enjoyable to both the shucker and the end consumer.
Lambert Shellfish plans to harvest and sell its first batch of “Loving Cups,” which have a medium salinity and a buttery aftertaste, in the fall of 2019.
